our story

Inspired by simplicity and fresh, seasonal produce, Bergen offers an experience that is modest, humble and unassuming.


Chef and owner Clayton Costigan is passionate about creating good quality, locally sourced food that is affordable, yet undeniably delicious.


The vision for bergen was to provide an amazing variety of meals coupled with excellent beer and wine. A classy yet casual dining experience that can’t help but draw you into its alluring atmosphere.


When deciding on a name for his restaurant, Clayton drew on fond memories of a childhood spent on his family’s farm in Walcha, NSW.  Knowing this was where his love of paddock to plate originated from, it wasn’t a hard decision to name his new venture after the property, ‘Bergen’


 The Norwegian meaning of Bergen is ‘mountain’, which couldn’t be more fitting for the restaurant’s mountaintop location of Toowoomba.
